The Bears traveled to Avon Grove on Friday night to pick up their first Week 3 win since 2010 and their first victory against a Ches-Mont opponent since 2011. 

 

The Bears used the running game to possess the ball for 31 minutes of the game. 

 

The Bears opened up the scoring, taking 10 plays and 5 minutes and 24 seconds with a Gavin Royce 26-yard field goal to make it 3-0. 

 

Avon Grove took their only lead of the night early in the second quarter, picking up 60 yards on the last two plays of a 6-play drive, getting a 28-yard touchdown run from Jose Sabastro and a Will Dougherty extra point to make it a 7-3 lead for the Red Devils. 

 

The Bears got the ball back with 4:29 left in the second quarter and, after a first down, were forced to punt. Avon Grove fumbled the ball which was recovered by Braydon Burris to set the Bears up at the Avon Grove 19 yard line. 

 

2 plays later Tilman Henley went in from 11 yards out Gavin Royce added the extra point to put the Bears on top 10-3. 

 

The Bears added one more touchdown in the third quarter as Henley went in again from one yard out, capping a 12-play 47-yard drive. Royce, with another extra point, made the score 17-7. 

 

Avon Grove had a chance to cut the lead to three on the first play of the fourth quarter when they had 4th and goal from the one, but a strong push by the Bears' defensive line and a tackle by Michael Boorse ended Avon Grove's chances for the evening.  

 

Michael Boorse led all rushers with 15 carries for 89 yards, Luke Hagan pulled in the only Bears reception for 11 yards.  Jake Musselman averaged 40.7 yards per punt and placed 2 of them inside the 20. Logan Oakes led on defense with a half sack and 8 tackles.
